Together we can build a transparent and accountable government
Abuse of power, fraud, and broken promises - these should NOT be the words that describe our Montana State government. Montanans DESERVE better.
ABOUT
Accountability in State Government is a Montana PAC working to make sure our leaders serve the people with honesty, openness, and responsibility.
HONESTY
Honesty builds trust. Leaders must speak the truth, even when it is hard, so citizens can rely on their word.
OPENNESS
Openness keeps government accountable. Decisions should be clear and visible to the people they affect.
RESPONSIBILITY
Responsibility means owning every choice. True leadership puts the good of the people above personal gain.
Meet the Founder
Dan Bartel is the founder of Accountability in State Government, an initiative dedicated to strengthening public trust by promoting transparency, integrity, and responsibility in Montana’s legislative process. Drawing on years of service in both the Montana House of Representatives and the Montana Senate, Dan established this organization to ensure that citizens have clear, honest insight into how their government operates and how their elected officials uphold their commitments.
During his tenure in the Legislature, Dan became widely respected for his disciplined approach to fiscal policy, his oversight of government operations, and his consistent advocacy for rural communities. He served on key committees, including Appropriations, Finance and Claims, and State Administration, where he earned a reputation for steady leadership, thoughtful analysis, and a commitment to safeguarding taxpayer interests.
A lifelong Montanan, Dan understands the foundational values that guide the state’s communities — accountability, hard work, and service. His experience in public office reinforced his belief that good government depends on elected leaders who keep their word and place the interests of their constituents above political convenience.
Through Accountability in State Government, Dan advances this mission by providing Montanans with fact-based evaluations of legislative actions, highlighting leaders who demonstrate integrity, and encouraging a culture of transparent, accountable governance. His work reflects a long-standing commitment to strengthening public confidence in Montana’s institutions and ensuring that government remains responsive to the people it serves.
ISSUES
-
When politicians forget they work for the people, government turns into a tool for the powerful. Abuse of power erodes trust, silences citizens, and concentrates control in the hands of a few. Montana deserves leaders who serve, not rulers who exploit.
-
Every stolen dollar is a dollar taken from Montana families, schools, and communities. Fraud in government isn’t just numbers on a balance sheet — it’s betrayal. Taxpayers deserve honesty, not schemes.
-
Empty words have real costs. When leaders break their promises, they betray the trust of the people who put them in office. Montana deserves leaders whose commitments are more than campaign slogans and whose word can be counted on.
Transparency & Accountability
We believe trust is built on openness. As a registered political action committee in Montana, we are required by law to file regular fundraising and expenditure reports. These reports are made publicly available through state election authorities, giving every Montanan the opportunity to see how funds are raised and spent.
